Clinical Guidance

How to assess symptoms and act early

For psychiatric care in Tangier, request fast support when anxiety, mood instability, insomnia, or behavioral changes are escalating and affecting safety.

Symptom guide

Psychiatric triage prioritizes risk to self or others, severe agitation, psychotic symptoms, and rapid decline in daily functioning.

When to request same-day medical help

  • Anxiety, depression, insomnia, or panic episodes are persistent and worsening.
  • Medication side effects or withdrawal symptoms are affecting daily stability.
  • Behavioral changes are impairing work, family, or self-care.
  • Known psychiatric illness is clearly destabilizing despite routine care.

Emergency warning signs (call now)

  • Suicidal thoughts, self-harm intent, or threats toward others.
  • Severe agitation, disorientation, or psychosis with unsafe behavior.
  • Confusion after substance use, overdose, or abrupt withdrawal.
  • Inability to remain safe without immediate supervised support.

What to do while waiting for the doctor

  • Stay with the patient and reduce access to harmful objects.
  • Keep communication calm, simple, and non-confrontational.
  • Prepare psychiatric history, diagnoses, and active medications.
  • Escalate to emergency services immediately if safety risk increases.

Good outcomes usually come from early escalation, clear symptom tracking, and disciplined waiting steps.
