It belongs to a class of hypoglycemic medicines called sulfonylureas. glimépiride acts by increasing the amount of insulin released by your pancreas. Insulin then lowers your blood sugar level. glimépiride is used in the treatment of diabetes mellitus (type 2 diabetes) when diet, physical exercise and weight loss are not sufficient on their own to restore glycemic balance.
