Pharmacotherapeutic class: Fluoroquinolone - ATC code: J01MA02 CIPROFLOXACINE TEVA contains an active substance, ciprofloxacin. Ciprofloxacin is an antibiotic belonging to the fluoroquinolone family. It acts by killing the bacteria responsible for infections. It is active only against certain specific strains of bacteria. In adults CIPROFLOXACINE TEVA is used in adults to treat the following bacterial infections: · respiratory tract infections; · persistent or recurrent ear or sinus infections; · urinary tract infections; · genital tract infections in men and women; · gastrointestinal infections and intra-abdominal infections; · skin and soft tissue infections; · bone and joint infections; · prevention of infections due to the bacterium Neisseria meningitidis; · exposure to anthrax. CIPROFLOXACINE TEVA may be used in the treatment of patients presenting with a low white blood cell count (neutropenia), and having a fever, for which a bacterium is suspected to be the cause. If you present with a severe infection or an infection due to different types of bacteria, additional antibiotic treatment may be prescribed to you in addition to CIPROFLOXACINE TEVA. In children and adolescents CIPROFLOXACINE TEVA is used in children and adolescents, under the supervision of a specialist, to treat the following bacterial infections: · lung and bronchial infections in children and adolescents with cystic fibrosis; · complicated urinary tract infections, including infections that have reached the kidneys (pyelonephritis); · exposure to anthrax. CIPROFLOXACINE TEVA may also be used to treat other specific severe infections of the child and adolescent if your doctor deems it necessary.
