Pharmacotherapeutic class: anti-epileptic, other anti-epileptics – ATC code: N03AX14. Levetiracetam is an anti-epileptic drug (a drug used to treat epileptic seizures). LEVETIRACETAM VIATRIS 250 mg, film-coated tablet is used: · alone, in adults and adolescents from 16 years of age presenting with a certain form of newly diagnosed epilepsy. Epilepsy is a disease in which patients have repeated seizures (convulsions). Levetiracetam is used for the form of epilepsy where seizures initially affect only one side of the brain, but which may subsequently spread to wider areas of both sides of the brain (partial seizure with or without secondary generalization). Levetiracetam has been prescribed to you by your doctor in order to reduce the number of seizures; · in association with other anti-epileptic drugs to treat: o partial seizures with or without generalization in adults, adolescents, children and infants from 1 month of age, o myoclonic seizures (brief, jerky movements of a muscle or group of muscles) in adults and adolescents from 12 years of age having juvenile myoclonic epilepsy, o primary generalized tonic-clonic seizures (severe seizures with loss of consciousness) in adults and adolescents from 12 years of age having idiopathic generalized epilepsy (this type of epilepsy which is supposed to have a genetic cause).
