Pharmacotherapeutic class - ATC code: angiotensin II antagonists, not associated - C09CA03. VALSARTAN KRKA 40 mg, film-coated scored tablet belongs to a class of medicines called angiotensin II receptor antagonists, which help to control high blood pressure. Angiotensin II is a substance present in the body that causes contraction of the vessels, which produces an increase in blood pressure. Valsartan works by blocking the effect of angiotensin II. This leads to a relaxation of the blood vessels and a decrease in blood pressure. VALSARTAN KRKA 40 mg, film-coated scored tablet, can be used for three different conditions: · to treat high blood pressure in children and adolescents aged 6 years to less than 18 years. High blood pressure increases the effort exerted by the heart and the arteries. In the absence of treatment, hypertension can damage the blood vessels of the brain, the heart and the kidneys and can lead to a stroke, heart failure or renal failure. High blood pressure increases the risk of a heart attack. Lowering your blood pressure to a normal level allows for a reduction in the risk of these pathologies appearing. · for the treatment of adult patients who have recently suffered a heart attack (myocardial infarction). "Recently" means here between 12 hours and 10 days. · for the treatment of adult patients presenting with symptomatic heart failure. VALSARTAN KRKA 40 mg can be used in the treatment of symptomatic heart failure in adult patients. VALSARTAN KRKA 40 mg is used when a family of medicines called angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors (medicines used in the treatment of heart failure) cannot be used or can be administered in addition to angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors when other medicines cannot be used for the treatment of heart failure. Heart failure includes the following symptoms: shortness of breath and swelling of the feet and legs due to fluid accumulation. It occurs when the heart muscle fails to pump enough blood to provide the volume of blood required by the body.
