Pharmacotherapeutic class: Direct-acting antivirals, nucleosides and nucleotides excluding reverse transcriptase inhibitors, ATC code: J05AB01. ACICLOVIR EG contains the active substance aciclovir. This belongs to a group of medicines called antivirals. It works by preventing the growth of certain viruses. ACICLOVIR EG can be used to: · treat infections caused by the Herpes simplex virus of the skin and mucous membranes (cold sores, genital herpes and other Herpes simplex virus infections); · prevent recurrences of recurrent infections caused by the Herpes simplex virus (preventing these problems from coming back after having had them); · prevent infections caused by the Herpes simplex virus in immunocompromised patients (preventing these problems in people whose immune system works less well, meaning their bodies are less able to fight infections); · treat chickenpox and shingles; · prevent recurrences of ocular infections caused by the Herpes simplex virus; · treat ocular infections caused by the Herpes simplex virus.
